4.2L & 5.6L Cummins Concepts

The original Ram 1500 diesel did not feature the current EcoDiesel - late in 2007, Dodge (now Ram Trucks) teamed with Cummins to introduce two diesel options to the 1/2 ton category. At the time, competitors Ford Motor Company and General Motors had shown similar interests and the race to bring a diesel engine option to the 1/2 ton marketplace began. The battle between the Big 3 was short lived and as the economic crisis began to brew, Chrysler's plans quickly changed. This was not, however, before Cummins gave us a preview of a 4.2L V-6 and 5.6L V-8 that the company was developing. The engines have failed to resurface and plans for these engines are unlikely to reach the company's portfolio.
